Description
1930’s~40’s Tropical Quetzal Bird Brooch.. Sterling Silver Hollow Cast Construction.
This brooch features a detailed tropical bird perched on a branch with flowers. This brooch has a hollow-cast construction.. often called “Puffy” brooches, as they are constructed by creating a hollow cavity between two soldered sheets of silver. This technique allows for large, sculptural designs that remain lightweight and comfortable to wear.
Perfect for this brooch because of it’s size.. being 4~1/2 inches long… remains rather light to wear on garments without pulling the fabric down because of the weight.
On the back is stamped:
MEXICO
SILVER
and below that is the maker’s mark and the number “36”
This is in EXCELLENT VINTAGE CONDITION, with light signs of wear.. consistent with age.
Measurements:
4~1/2 inches long x 2~1/2 inches wide
Weight: 38 grams
